My first day of the Whole30 started in a bit of a unusual fashion, as I was driving back to New York from Ohio after spending the New Year’s holiday weekend with my family. Luckily, I’d prepared well. I had already purchased a few necessary foods and beverages, like Larabars and compliant tuna. My mom helped me make some homemade mayo (I have quite a ways to go on perfecting this, it seems..), and I threw together some tuna salad for my drive home.
It’s funny, because during my drive, I thought, “I really just want to grab a hamburger or a pretzel. I can definitely just start my Whole30 tomorrow. No big deal.”
But I didn’t, and I’m so glad that I didn’t. I made it home in the early evening and headed to the grocery store to pick up some produce and meat before prepping my breakfasts for the week.
Honestly, I’d thought travelling would make for a more difficult start to this journey, but I actually think it helped me. Being stuck in the car kept me from grabbing a random snack or eating something off-plan.
My only “Oops” was eating a second LaraBar after I’d stopped to eat my lunch. But oh well!
What I Ate

Tuna salad with cucumber, carrots, avocado, and Whole30 mayo
Leftover tuna salad mixed with spinach and lemon
How I Feel
Happy to see my fiancé! The food I ate wasn’t too different from my normal eating habits, just with a few small differences.
